All persons coming to the African Methodist Episcopal Church shall be received for nurturing and discipleship training for a period of three (3) months and shall be placed under the special care of the pastor in charge or his or her designee.
In preparation for being received into full membership in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, all new members and preparatory members shall be given at least the following areas of study:
1. The Assurance of Salvation
2. The Articles of Religion
3. A History of the AME Church
4. Introduction to Christian Stewardship, to include, but not be restricted to, Bible study and personal prayer
5. Rules and Regulations of the AME Church as described in The Doctrine and Discipline of the African Methodist Episcopal Church
6. Introduction to the Bible
7. History and Ministries of the Local Church
8. Catechism on Faith
Upon completion of these studies, using materials developed by the AME Church, whenever possible, and on recommendation and approval of the pastor in charge, or his or her designee, these persons may be received into full connection as members of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and be issued a Certificate of Full Membership at the time when received into full membership.
